  • Easy bus access to the centre — A bus stop is just a minute’s walk away, and the ride into central Edinburgh takes about 10 minutes. No need to rely on a car.

Worth weighing

4 to weigh
  • Location is a bit out of the centre — The Sandaig sits in Leith, about a 10-minute drive or bus ride from Princes Street Gardens. Walkers might find the centre less accessible on foot.
  • Rooms and cleanliness rated lower — The ‘Rooms and cleanliness’ category scores 6/10, below other aspects. A few guests felt the rooms didn’t fully match expectations.
  • Reception hours are limited — Check-in is only between 14:00 and 19:00, and check-out between 08:00 and 11:00. Arrivals outside these windows may need to make special arrangements.
  • No pets allowed — If you’re travelling with a dog or cat, this isn’t the place – the property is strictly no-pets.

“Family room had a great view of the park, as I’d requested in advance. The safe, cable TV with on-demand movies, and tea and coffee kit were a nice bonus.”

“Really enjoyed Edinburgh. The hotel was beautiful and quiet, not far from the centre. Staff were kind and polite, service was fantastic. The room was pretty and had everything I needed, including a bathtub and shower. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic and lovely, at a much cheaper rate and great value.”

“My wife and I had a top-floor room with a big bed and bathroom. The cherry drink was great. No trouble at all parking outside. A bus right beside the hotel gets you into the city centre in about 10 minutes.”

“Fantastic bar and courteous staff. Location is easy, near public transport. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, like Desi Pakwan, within a 5-minute walk or so.”

“Booked the Sandaig for a party in the area and needed an overnight stay. We were pleasantly surprised from the moment we opened the door – beautifully decorated, very clean, and greeted by Laura, who was extremely friendly. Our ensuite room at the top of the house was well equipped, warm, and comfortable, with a table and chairs set out with tea/coffee and biscuits in a bay window overlooking Leith Links. We hadn’t booked breakfast but decided to have it on Sunday morning – good choice and very good value. We’ll definitely return.”
